Formatting causes file number to reset to 001, Stylus i

I but got my Stylus 1 and have gone through the menu and manual repeatedly but can't find why formatting my retention bill of fare causes the file numbering to go back to the same date and file number.  For instance, today my file numbers started before with P6130001.  And subsequently I copied those to my estimator and formatted the card today, the same day, the new photos accept the verbal same file number.  I am not using the carte option to reset either basic or total and so that isn't information technology.

When yous wait at the lcd, the photographic camera shows the next file you lot take after formatting as 100-001.

Anyone know why this is happening?

Cheers in advance for your assist.

I figured it out.  Kind of obscure but it is there in one of the card items and then under an option called "record".  All is well.  Cathy H.

Hi Cathy,

Don't accept my Stylus i handy - but do have my EM10 nearby and all the Olympus settings are pretty similar.

In the GEAR settings, there should be a sub-carte called Record/Erase. In that menu there is a setting File Name. Setting it to AUTO will proceed the weird numerical sequence from resetting. Setting information technology to RESET will (I believe, never left information technology set to that) reset the numbers each time you either format or put in a new SD card.

Yes, that'southward exactly how it works on the Stylus 1 and what I did to fix the problem.  I definitely recollect this is obscure.  On Canon cameras it'due south not buried similar this so you lot can find information technology and fix it easily.  On the other paw, the Stylus 1 has a heck of a lot more than customizing options and perhaps that requires a more than complicated menu.

On the SH-50, RESET is the first item on the start (of five) menu screens. The options are YES and NO. The default is NO. Reformatting the carte does NOT impact the numbering, regardless of which method of formatting I utilize (in the camera by the camera, in the camera by the laptop via the USB cable, or with the card in the laptop SD card slot).

I am getting more and more than convinced that the Stylus 1 has its roots in the C-750UZ from 2003. The Stylus 1 has the same quirks. Saved custom settings cannot exist edited, they take to be re-entered afresh. The lens stays open when the bombardment dies. And now it appears that the RESET default is YES when relying on the photographic camera firmware.

These are the almost basic reliability problems that should NOT re-surface in an enthusiast camera twice the cost of the SH-l. The only reason I can come across why Olympus is getting away with it is, the Stylus 1 is adopted by starting time-time buyers.

Allow's hope that ane of these days Olympus will completely re-make their menu arrangement into something that's better suited to human beings with finite patience and retention!
